125th Anniversary Celebrations

On 14thDecember 1888, the tender price of 60 pounds was accepted to build a provisional school at Jilliby Jilliby. This school opened under the direction of Mr William Baldwin on 5thMay 1889. The school's status was changed from Provisional to Public School effective from 1stJanuary 1891. In 1910 the school was renamed Jilliby Public School as it is still known as today.

This means that Jilliby Public School is celebrating 125 years of education, our history, culture and community. Our school motto Friendship and Learning combined with our anniversary theme, past, present and future means there is a lot to celebrate. Therefore we have decided to have our celebration over a week beginning on Monday 8thSeptember and concluding on Saturday 13thSeptember.

On Monday the students will be experiencing school lessons from the past. The children will be in small rotating groups to experience a variety of learning opportunities over the day from six different teachers. Parents and family members are welcome to drop in during the day to see the children hard at work. Having the children dressed in period costume will add to the atmosphere of the day. A special whole school photo taken in the morning will be displayed in the office next to our official school photo taken by the school photographers on the following day.

On Wednesday from 5:30 pm all classrooms will be set up as museums with artefacts and personal memory boxes on display. The library will also be open, displaying old school photographs. Year 6 as a fundraising opportunity will be selling sausage sandwiches and drinks at this time. Following at 6:30 pm will be an outside school concert under the COLA with two items from each class to entertain everyone on the night. The concert theme is Friendship and Learning of the Past.

On Friday at 1:00 pm we will be travelling by bus to Dooralong Oval for a picnic lunch and games afternoon. The Dooralong Hall will be displayed with historical photos of the area. We will be finishing the afternoon with a digital display and film of the school over past years. The afternoon ends at 4:00 pm.

The week of celebrations concludes with our Anniversary dinner on Saturday 13th September at Wyong Race Club. Ex- teachers, Principals, parents and students past and present (over 18 years) are cordially invited to celebrate the official 125thAnniversary with a 2 course meal, cake, tea and coffee, the evening beginning at 6:00 pm in the Murray Doyle Room – cost $50.00 per person.  RSVP with number attending by Tuesday 12 August.  Full payment due on or before Thursday 28 August 2014.
